Patent Overview

Today there are five issued Personal Audio U.S. patents all derived from a patent disclosure filed in October of 1996. The patents describe a series of innovations designed to allow consumers to have a personalized audio or video experience using a media-enabled device connected to the Internet. These innovations are commonly used today in smartphones, tablets and other devices that store and play audio and video files that work with downloaded playlists. Other pioneering innovations included the uploading and distribution of episodic content such as podcasts and serialized television shows.

In addition to device manufacturers, many podcast publishers also employ the Personal Audio invention described in the Podcasting patent.
